Queensland Retired Police Association Incorporated

STATE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Greg Early | State President, Welfare Officer, Brisbane North:

I served for forty-three years from Cadet to Assistant Commissioner and joined the Association soon after retiring in January 1999. I served five years as State Secretary and have been State President since 2013.

I have assisted to form several new Branches and am a Welfare Officer for the Association.

I take a keen interest in the activities of our seventeen Branches and enjoy editing our contribution to the Union Journal and also the quarterly newsletter which is posted to those members not on email as well as  Police Widows.

Since retiring, I have written some 35 stories about aspects of policing in Queensland.  Several of these stories relate to improvements which emanated from suggestions made by members of my commands.

All of my stories can be found on the QRPA Website.

Bob Pease | Senior State Vice President:

I am a proud member of the QRPA and have been on the SMC for 14 years.

The SMC, together with branch officials, are entrusted to make decisions for the day to day operations and ultimately the longevity of the organisation.

I encourage members to put up their hand for a position on the SMC and thus assist in ensuring the organisation's future.

Bob Atkinson | State Vice President, Welfare Officer, Brisbane North:

My 44 year career with the QPS spanned from 1968 to 2012. The 'Job' took me to Hemmant, Sandgate, Brisbane City, Fortitude Valley, Goondiwindi, Sunshine Coast, Cairns and various roles at Police Headquarters.

I will always be grateful for the career opportunities I was fortunate to receive. The best part of those 44 years though was the people I met and worked with. It's good to be able to continue that aspect as a member of the QRPA.

Alex Granlund | State Vice President:

I retired from the QPS in January 2009, joining the QRPA in 2012.

I continue to reside in Brisbane where I served the majority of my service. Joining the QRPA I found was a way of maintaining contact with past and present members that I had worked with over the 34 years I was in the QPS.

Edward (Ted) Bones | State Vice President, Welfare Officer, Brisbane South:

I served twenty-five years from 1968-1993 and was medically retired after being injured on duty.

I joined the Association to keep in touch with the members I served with and to observe the ongoing changes within the QPS.

I am a Welfare Officer for Southside of Brisbane.

M.J.(Mick) O’Brien | The Immediate Past State President:

Resigned 12/96 Superintendent Communications Branch. Joined QRPA 01/97. Elected State Secretary SMC Sept. 2000. State President 2005 – 2012.

During this period the SMC added 8 new Branches to the 9 in the Association. Another was added in 2017.

I remain an unelected member of the SMC titled “The Immediate Past State President”. For almost 19 years I’ve had the pleasure of working with a number of professional and enthusiastic members on the SMC to further the aims and objectives of the QRPA.

Jillian Steinkamp | State Treasurer:

Upon retirement from QPS I took a couple of ‘gap years’ before joining the QRPA in 2010 becoming State Secretary, which continued for eight years.

In 2018, I became State Treasurer enjoying my first year in the role, ‘learning on the job’. Keeping members of the police family connected has been a rewarding part of my QRPA involvement.

Chris Sang   | State Secretary:

Pat Philp | Assistant State Secretary:

I retired in 2000 and after a period of working in various positions I became more interested in the people I worked with during my 28 years service with the QPS.

It has been rewarding to reacquaint with former colleagues and be of assistance in my position of Assistant State Secretary.

David Walsh, | Welfare Officer, Brisbane South:
